Boot/recover from SD card

Questions and discussions related to Inforce 6601 Micro SOM

by tamo2 » Thu Mar 15, 2018 4:28 pm

We are designing a board which will have the 6601 SOM on it.
We would like to make the board small, so here is the question.

Do you have a plan to support booting / recovering from SD card?

We are planning to use Linux on the board.
If recovery using SD card is supported, then we can get rid of the micro-USB port and the VOL- button from our design.
I ask the question because the Dragonboard 820C supports it ( ... tallation/).

Hi Ashwin,
I have used the recovery package using the USB, but my question is specifically using a SD card.
Do you have plans to support recovery/boot using SD card?
Dragonboard 820C seems to support that.

Looks like Linux V1.1 release (003293 Rev A, December 21, 2018) supports booting from SD card.
Release Notes says:

SDCard Boot : This release supports to boot the entire OS from the SD card, without modifying the existing UFS content.

but it doesn't have any further information. Can you tell a bit more details, such as, DIP switch settings, how to setup a SD card, etc.?
